Riyal : a real life story

Somebody posted about Rupiah currency a while ago, made me remembered about Riyal currency.

Few weeks ago a friend of mine was so happy after receiving about 150,000 Riyal.

Him: I got 150,000 riyal.

Me: Where did you get that money?

Him: A friend of mine, an engineer from Iran and now staying in NY. (He was so famous in NY driving Ninja King in Sabah)

Me: Wow you’re rich!!!

Him: How much is 150,000 if I convert it into RM?

Me: About RM120,000. RM and Riyal have almost the same converting value.

Him: (Big smile… He was thinking about getting married? New Hand Phone? New Motorcycle? Or perhaps new CAR?)

His GF: He just gave me 50,000 Riyal with Big Smile… (She also thinks about new hand phone???)

Me: Wow…

A week later…

Him: So hard to convert this money into RM, so many banks and money traders and nobody wanted to accept my money, so many excuses…

Me: Not possible!!! Riyal is a famous/commercial currency!

*I log on into the internet and trying to get more info about RIYAL. I found out that Iran using Rial and Arab using RIYAL. The identical pronunciation between these two currencies made me smile. It was obviously my friend was carrying 150,000 RIAL and not RIYAL. How much is 150,000 Rial worth in RM??? Slightly, cheaper than Rupiah.

Me: My friend I’m sorry…If u read this blog.

*haven’t seen him after that day.
